HUGO CARDONA is a dual-qualified lawyer and professor of law based in Madrid. He is specialized in international commercial law, international investment law and international arbitration with private and State entities.

Hugo has been trained as a lawyer in Bolivia and in Spain. He has also obtained a master’s degree in commercial law and a master’s degree in international business law at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He completed the Public, Private and General International Law courses at The Hague Academy of International law, and the Paris Arbitration Academy program specialized in commercial and investment arbitration.  He is an accredited member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb).

Hugo Cardona focuses on arbitration, international mediation and complex negotiations. He worked at the corporate/commercial law department and arbitration & ADR department of a Spanish law firm, advising clients from the banking, construction and energy sectors in the fields of corporate law, energy law, financial, sales and distribution contracts, commercial negotiations, as well as in arbitration proceedings.

Among his academic activities, Hugo Cardona is an Associate Professor of International Arbitration & ADR at CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. He is also a coach of CEU San Pablo University’s team at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

Prior to his professional activities in the field of international dispute resolution, Hugo has been a researcher for two years and is currently part of the International Centre for Arbitration, Mediation and Negotiation (CIAMEN) of the Royal University Institute for European Studies. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “Arbitraje. Revista de Arbitraje Comercial y de Inversiones”. Hugo speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.
